The Gathering For Justice

I posted a link to this video on my blog earlier, but I felt like it deserved its own posting. If you got 2 minutes, it's really worth checking out.

While she could never endorse him publicly, I think she voted for him. You get the sense that she is genuinely happy about the election and about Obama. About 40 seconds into the video when she calls him "President Elect Obama," she cracks a smile that to me seemed incredibly authentic.

So what do you think? Did she vote for Obama? Having seen this video (about 10 times now), I'm convinced she did.

Your previous blog made me curious enough about "whether or not she voted for Obama" enough to look for her reactions to the election and me and my husband came across this video. We don't believe that she voted for him-she has an allegiance to the republican party that drives her career. However, she was a child in segregated Alabama and her drive to be successful was not just a personal goal but one that was carried by many African Americans from her generation, she is VERY proud as a black woman. Obama becoming president was a dream realized for her. Im sure this also sparked dreams of being the first "black woman president" in her head-even if for a second before she woke up.

Don't be to hasty to let go of the last 8 years. I know we need to move forward, but come on. She had many opportunities to do the right thing...didn't she??????????????????????????????????????????????

For me, it’s less of an issue of who she voted for. She’s been one of the ring-leaders of the current administration’s foreign policy and yet she can recognizes the significance of the election results. Good for her.

About

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
