TY, for the hospitality Brother.
You know, I really do want to attend Kingian teachings. I hope those who can will continue to post their videos and information, it helps so much. I've always believed this is our answer, in one form or another. I haven't seen this teaching in our area, besides a parallel in faith. We need to add these great lessons to our school curriculums, youth clubs/groups. Our community is hungry for help, answers. Everyone is working on the issue of violence.
I want to make a Kingian "board presentation" and handouts to add to our information booth when we go to conferences/trainings/ schools, using The Gathering for reference. Any Ideas? Our next large conference is the first part of March. called "Stop Our Gang Violence; Parent and Community Forum". Put together by an advocacy agency, school district, law enforcement, ourselves(Mothers of murdered children by gangs) and have invited the city government to participate. What a great place for us to introduce Kingian. Since Latino's are the majority here (farm country) the respect for Martin Luther King is great. (Cesar, Martin and Robert). All people can relate. Pictures, I will need pictures..any Ideas? Anything at all you think would have a great impact please share with me. Something to think about anyway.
Peace & Love

I spoke to my son about you. He was very interested in what you do. So I will keep him updated.

Tonight I am lighting a candle for you, your family, your peace warriors, and our Elders. I send you strength, peace and Love. May our creator bring you many blessings my brother Kevin.

That would interest my son for sure. He has been involved in the Inter Tribal and Latino groups for years inside. His spirituality is deep. When they moved him here, close to home, there was no drum and they were not doing the sweat and there were little beads, no medicines to smudge. Since this is a religious matter he got permission and I was allowed to take him the hide to build a drum, medicines and beads. He works maintenance so he and his supervisor built the drum.
There were Elders there that had not heard a drum or singing in many many years. My son took Elders and brothers to sweat (even one in a wheel chair) he took care of everything for them so they could pray. They also made regalia and were going to have a small Pow wow, but a new superintendent took over and it feel through. It happens. Do the prisons over there have these groups?
On Mex. Independence Day what Alex did was take all kinds of posters and art, he put it up on the walls. At the beginning was ancient Mayan and Aztec culture, as you walk the art brought you to the present showing strong Latino leaders, activists and artist. And then add the dancers and food….it was a good day. It was real culture, true culture, past to present. This is what the young people need to experience; to hear the ways and stories and understand what their ancestors went through to get to this point. And see where they are going, as well.
So keep up the struggle to share the culture. You’ll do good works inside, I pray you can achieve this goal.

Thank you for your kind words. So true so true.... I remember when we met as well, you blew me away, you have such a deep soul.
I know what you mean about time. I feel I am finally at the point of balance. Enjoying my family as well. Busy with my grandson and nieces/nephews, beading, dancing, making Christmas gifts. And I continue to visit my son weekly in prison, He will be home soon.
Alex is still hanging on to Barrios Unidos. Lost his funding from the diocese, but still has the building and is out helping communities organize, assisting families and has his presents in all the community programs JRA, schools and helped the Latino Group inside a WA. prison (for the third yr.) with the Sept. 16th celebration. He took all his Aztec/Mex. art and history to share and the guys even added to it. It was very powerful. We had Aztec dancers and food.
So we conitinue our struggle, enjoy life every chance we can, and thank our Lord for another day.
Take care Kevin and enjoy your family! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hey Brother, looking at organizing a National Day of Solidarity for Alex Sanchez's Birthday. We are asking folks to do a teach in in their living rooms, churches and/or integrate this into their regular programming. I hoping that folks in DC/Virginia/Maryland can host something. I posted the information on the events and the Forum page. If you can help that would be great. Hope all is well. Peace and blessings-Carmen

I hope you got the message reply as to how you can support our brother Alex. Letters of support are being sent to his attorney's office and people are holding strategy/mobilizing meetings in their communities.

Dear Kevin,
feel free to post my spoken words (41 shots and 19 hits). As for non-violence- as a revolutionary elder i've never been able to grasp the western concept surrounding this as a strategy to some end.
I do believe in what Malcolm X said in his message to the grass roots speech, that "we are non-violent with those who are non-violent with us" and we are peaceful with those who are peaceful with us. And to not let your blood just run in the streets.- Pa' Alante-Curly Estremera

What's up Kevin, I was reading what you wrote above and I didn't know they call you Curly X. My childhood nickname is Curly C because of my curly hair and my initial. That is so funny, I went home for my birthday and my old basketball teammates still refer to me at Curly C. That's cool.

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
