The Gathering For Justice

The Connecticut Center for Nonviolence is making constant strides in
bringing Kingian Nonviolence training to different groups in CT.
This past Halloween weekend Jonathan Lewis joined us for a training of
youth trainers who are working on Peace in the Streets in New Haven, CT.
That training is going well and when it's completed these strong youth will
lead trainings to other youth. Let the POWERFUL CYCLE of TRANSFORMATION
continue!

We are beginning a nine week Kingian Nonviolence curriculum for
Montessori school children from first to sixth grade. This is an ongoing training
that we started several years ago. It is supported by a collaboration
grant awarded by the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism.

We are creating the 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Birthday Commemoration of Litchfield County, CT. Here, students who
have been trained, will be giving presentations. Thanks to an arts after school
program called ASAP, I will be working with three schools. A small group from
each school is building a choral presentation of the Six Principles and will perform
together at the Commemoration Event.

We are leading several two day core trainings for adults in the capital city
of Hartford and as well. Here, we have over 25 certified Kingian Nonviolence trainers.

I am speaking/performing at numerous schools for the MLK Holiday.
The Dr. King Holiday is one of the most powerful vehicles we have
for spreading the urgent message of Nonviolence. The Holiday is a perfect
opportunity to offer 2 day core training, lectures, workshops etc. It's ideal for hosting
a coffee house, open mic, nonviolence poetry slam etc. I'd love to hear what other folks
are doing in this season.

With the intense barrage of horrible news and daily violent
acts that are reported, Dr. King's words resonate with my one burning
thought- NONVIOLENCE OR NONEXISTENCE.

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
