The Gathering For Justice

Welcome members to The Gathering for Justice web family! This has been a goal for The Gathering for a long time, to truly build a community in which individuals have the opportunity to build directly with others fighting against a common enemy.

The History Of The Gathering is reflected in each and every one of you. We are creating a community based in culture and a shared dedication to nonviolence. Together through discussion we have come to understand that ending child incarceration is a moral imperative for us. It is a hanging thread in the cloak of injustice. As a global community we are dedicated to creating a space for coordination to support one another in all of our efforts.

How to use this site:

There are a lot of ways you can interact with our site. Our goal is for this to be a tool in our model and training exchanges and relationship building.

1) Join Gathering groups and partners groups: http://gatheringforjustice.ning.com/groups

a. Here you will find groups from your areas who are involved with The Gathering, currently local campaigns that have been created are on the groups site, we hope that everyone will join a group. If your region is not represented create one.

2) Blog about what your doing: http://gatheringforjustice.ning.com/profiles/blog/new

a. Mr. B, the executive committee and regional leaders will be blogging to give us a picture of the field, EVERYONE is a part of the field, so let us know what your doing and how you want to build.

3) Start forums and discussions: http://gatheringforjustice.ning.com/forum

a. We have already uploaded a lot of background information on The Gathering, a new forum will be added regularly. If you have any ideas, start one.

b. We will also use this as a space to post curriculum and get feedback on the trainings. Keep your eye out for them.

4) Upload video of your events and trainings: http://gatheringforjustice.ning.com/video/video/newWithUploader

a. First, please be encouraged to post events you are doing or promoting on the site, it is easy to do from the events button.

b. Once your event is done post video and outcomes. The work that everyone is doing is a model to be learned from and replicated where possible.

Member Highlight:

Regularly, The Gathering will randomly pick 3 members from the site and post a little highlight on who they are and what they are working on, we hope you will participate in being highlighted as well as friend members that are highlighted.

Group Highlights:

The Gathering will also highlight a group and their organizing model. If you want your group to be highlighted create a group profile and let us know.

Monthly Training Dates: http://gatheringforjustice.ning.com/profile/JonathanLewis

Check out the events page for our monthly trainings. In August we will be in Milwuakee, support The Campaign Against Violence, and then on to Erie PA for a 2 day non violent direct action core training.

Dr. King reminds us, that we "either go up together or we go down together…let us develop this kind of dangerous unselfishness." Together and only together can we continue on building in footsteps of all of our ancestors, unraveling this suffocating coat of injustice, depriving us all from the light that freedom brings.

We look forward to continuing to build with you, on this site and in your communities.

When posting your tags, you need to put multiple words within double quotation marks to keep them together. For instance: "gathering for justice", or "police brutality". The purpose of tags (also called meta tags or tag words) is to make it easier for your members to find your content, and for search engines to locate your content. As relates to to latter, anyone searching for content related to your own will be able to find your content via searches on search engines (Yahoo, Google, Ask, etc).

Should you require any technical assistance here, I am available. I know Ning's platform inside out. It can be a powerful tool if you know how to utilize it.

About

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
