Stop the Oakland Youth Curfew!!!!!!!!!! They Trying to lock us up Yall!!!!!
Oakland is once again trying to pass a city wide youth curfew as a component of the Oakland Police Department's (OPD) strategic plan. This curfew would have all youth 18 and under questioned and detained for violating curfew with out exception. From 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. (Sunday through Thursday) and 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday the criminizalitaztion, primarily of youth of color, will have a green light. Parents will be levied fines with increasing penalty, CPS maybe called if there is no one present to receive or pick up a young person from detention.
Understanding that contact with the police is most often traumatic at best for our young people and understanding the history of racial profiling and police abuse in Oakland this is a recipe for disaster. This will make our communities less safe, pull more youth into the cycles of the justice systems and more exacerbate the suffering of families who are in need.

Thanks for the post. I know a lot about Oakland police department and their agenda since I went to high school in east bay and went a Junior college in Oakland. Oakland police department is adopting the kind of measures we see in LA and other cites around the country this is sad considering mayor Ron Dellums history. Tough on crime does not work. I was in Oakland last week visiting I know live in LA area. I comletely agree with Venus in her analysis. Hopefully people will fight back and challenge this crap.
