It is time for collective action. If we continue to claim territory verses acknowledging our responsibility we will remain in a state of mental poverty. Lets come together so that we may meet the demand for training.

Peace Walk Tucson 2009

Peace Walk Tucson 2009

The Jewish-Muslim Peace Walk (this year we started at a Jewish site and ended at a Muslim one) was attended by about 250 people (with lots of children as well). The cooler overcast weather was great for us.

We started with opening ceremonies, proclamations, prayers and some ritual
use of water (that was the theme this year) at Congregation Or Chadash.
There were plenty of snacks to enjoy as well.

Then we walked to Tucson Hebrew Academy for songs and some dance in alarge… Continue

Awesome meeting Monday March 2, 2009

Hello Beloved Community,
The meeting Monday drew more adults, but even more teens to join the Nonviolence Legacy Project Planning Coalition. This is good as some of the coalition members are nonprofits swamped with budget cuts and layoffs, therefore increased workloads to keep their main nonprofits sustained. They are still very much with us, but may have to hang back and miss meetings for awhile.

One of the responsibilities I responded to is Fiscal Matters (budgets, fundraising, etc.). Wow, ne… Continue

Community Conversations

Hello Beloved Community,

We had a small gathering, lots of delicious food, and meaningful conversation. We started out with Viveka (the hispanic, vedantic, catholic jew) sharing some of his insights. He also had one of the teens from his family (Josue) read something he wrote recently. Josue reminded us about Cesar Chavez' contributions to nonviolence and the Beloved Community. Some people had questions about Vedanta as they didn't know much about it. So we all learned more.

Then Rabbi Shafir… Continue

Dr. King on the Beloved Community from the King Center website

Welcome to The Beloved Community

THE BELOVED COMMUNITY OF
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

“The Beloved Community” is a term that was first coined in the early days of the 20th century by the philosopher-theologian Josiah Royce, who founded the Fellowship of Reconciliation. However, it was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., also a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, who popularized the term and invested it with a deeper meaning which has captured the imagination of people of good will all over the wo… Continue

About

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
