The drug rehab classes I am doing for parents that have lost custody of their kids due drug use... we have seen a 200% increase in referrals..... but a 47% decrease in funding = ability to provide services.. so all these babies that have been taken away from parents (and there are many more because drug use has increased due to stress) and the babies that are getting taken are sitting in foster care after foster care while they wait for their parents case to be worked on. Our System here hasn't changed, the judges still want parents to attend the same classes and counseling appointments to earn their kids back, but there are no classes our counselors available due to the budget cuts. Some parents are waiting three months to be able to start classes, but the judges are not making any allowances in their case plans which generally call for completion of an intensive rehab program within a year. So in essence, the system is causing further failure of these parents and destroying families even further.
