Thanks to all who came to the event in Columbus

I like to thank everyone that came out to our session dedicated to Oscar Grant, here is the piece that I dedicated to the brother:

My Neck is in a noose
and my body swings in the wind
as the days of my life
flash before my eyes
I regret that I didn't get
to say goodbye
to the ones that i love
as I surrender to this
destiny
swinging in the wind
all my past horrors
my life begins
Im free
at last I'm free
I am the strange fruit
that hangs from the tree
I pray that my people don't forget me
as my body swings in the wind
God Blow on me
God blow on me
and as I sway from
right to left
all my past transgressions are forgiven
as I hear the snap of my neck
and as the life that I know
flows away
I am filled with something beyond
as my body swings in the wind
my future fades into the shadow
of my past as the present rises upon me fast
my last words turns
into a gasp
and my body swings in the wind

That is a poem about lynching and it is a shame that in 2009 this piece can apply to many of our young peoples lives. All we have to do is change a few words.

I pray and hope, that the negative mentality of racism and the generations of hate, that is cultivated through our children, end, with the help of inspirational words and leaders.

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
