Looking for St. Louis, MO Based Advocates and Support Network

Hi,

My name is evan milligan and I need to ask you all a favor. Do you know any community based advocates, organizers, supportive people, elders, youth, individuals, or organizations based in St. Louis, MO.

I work as a paralegal for the Equal Justice Initiative. www.eji.org. If you go to that website, you will see a link to a youtube film about a young man from St. Louis who was wrongfully convicted of Murder 2nd when he was around 13 or 14. He was sentenced to life without parole. The attorney's here recently supported him in appeal, and successfully negotiated his release from prison. He has been living here in Alabama for the past week and a half as a part of a prisoner re-entry support program. However, eventually, he will return to St. Louis.

He has remarked often about being thankful to meet "positive" people, progressive young people, community oriented black people, etc. Surely there is a similar community in St. Louis.

I called Tufara to seek her wisdom, and she suggested I reach out to everyone on the gathering. Please, if you have suggestions, email me at milliganevan@gmail.com. My cell is 334.590.1702. Later in the week, I will show the young man this website, and see if he is interested in joining.

Thank you very much for any hope you can provide.

Hope and Love.

evan

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
