Superintendent Weis agreed to a meeting with L.I.P. leadership; his staff has been in communication with us about planning the meeting, though it has not been scheduled or conducted yet.

The action is on for 6pm sharp at 35th and Michigan this Thursday Dec 11th! The public Police Review Board meeting starts at 6:30 and we will rally outside before entering. The demand will once again be delivered that the Department stop the program of deployng the Colt M4 Carbine to every officer.

Please note that this meeting has been set for 1 hour earlier than usual.

One and all, please meet at 6pm sharp!!!

And, email back with any questions.

Those interested in speaking to Weis and the Board must sign-up before 4:30pm on Wednesday by calling the Police Board offices at 312.742.4194.

The official rules for the meeting are as follows:
_______________

The Police Board values the attendance of the public at its meetings and the opportunity to receive comments and questions on matters concerning the Board or the Police Department. The Board will treat members of the public with courtesy and respect, and expects that the public will treat Board members and Department members in a similar manner.

Toward that end, the Board has adopted the following rules governing conduct at Board meetings:

An individual wishing to address the Board must sign-up in advance by contacting the Board's office by phone, fax, or in person no later than 4:30 p.m. of the day before the meeting.

When called upon to address the Board, each speaker is to identify him/herself and speak clearly so that all in attendance may hear and so that the court reporter may make an accurate record of the proceedings.

Due to time constraints, each speaker is limited to two minutes and must conclude when asked to do so by the Board member acting as parliamentarian.

Personal attacks, obscene language, fighting words, threats, conduct intended to disrupt or interfere with the meeting, and comments not related to matters within the Board's or the Department's jurisdiction, by a speaker or any person in attendance, are strictly prohibited.

Violation of any of the above rules may result in the removal of the violator from the meeting room, or in the immediate adjournment of the meeting; in addition, repeated violations may result in the violator not being permitted to attend or participate in future Board meetings.

Superintendent Weis agreed to meeting with youths' L.I.P. no M4s campaign after second action!
Please all youth from Chicago's criminalized communities, and allies in solidarity, plan to be at the next police Board meeting Dec 11th at 35th and Michigan and stay tuned for the date set with Weis for the community meeting!

Update in Summary:
The Live In Peace - No M4s Campaign conducted a direct action on Police Superintendent Jody Weis at the Police Review Board meeting last Thursday. Over 100 youth leaders and members of Kuumba Lynx, Connect Force, Multicultural Youth Project, Media Masala, Generation Y, and the University of Hip Hop demanded that M4s not be deployed to CPD squad cars and that Weis come to a youth summit on December 13th to hear youth questions and concerns on the initiative. Allies from local Universities, First Deffense Legal Aid, Citizens Alert, the American Civil Liberties Union, Southwest Community Coalition, and the Chicago Justice Project stood in solidarity with the youth. Demands were delivered in writing and supported by over a dozen speakers, a robust audience and lively pre-meeting rally outside the CPD headquarters. Weis stated he will be out of town for the summit, but conceded to a meeting at a youth space in Chicago Lawn. He will receive a follow up-letter today via certified mail scheduling the meeting.

About

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
