YPP Response—
Miami, FL—Professor Wynn at Florida International University
“Will get this immediately to all of our folks. Maria Lovett and I showed the YouTube version of this to our 36 undergraduates this morning. I will also share with them the action/response that YPP is creating. –joannie”
Virgina—Virginia State University Students
“Thank you so much for contacting me about this. Unfortunately Virginia State will not start classes for the Spring semester until January 20th but I am sure that I can organize a discussion and viewing of the video as scheduled on February 14. I will get in touch with other organizations on my campus and see if they will be interested in holding a campus wide event and discussion and possibly wearing black on that day. Thank You –Afua Serwah- Asibey”
Michigan— YPP
“I received your message and email, and spoke with 2 of my colleagues about your suggestions. Tomorrow Brett Cunningham meets with his high school students, and is welcoming our CMLWs (currently in training) to join his meeting where they will show the video and discuss it, as well as encourage sending it out. On Thursday, we will meet with our CMLW training group and go over a similar format with our college students. Tomorrow as well, there is a local Math Literacy Project meeting with area teachers, administrators, deans, and reverends interested in promoting the work, we can mention YPP's national response there as well. In terms of a rally, I am not sure how to approach this is our few number and short time. I am going to email another organization that I am a part of: the Prison Creative Arts Project and see if they are doing anything in response and if we can join them. They have a meeting tomorrow evening as well. Thank you for informing us.
Peace to you, -Andrea”
“I think it is good that we are responding. It would be great for us all to keep this as a trend to nationally responding to injustice in this or even greater ways.”
