Will be there in Spirit. I stand 100% in solidarity with you This murder by the police is clearly an unacceptable, incomprehensible act. There can be no more excuses for this type of violence. Trainings must be mandated to dispel fears that cause trigger itchy fingers and the rush to zap with a taser or beat in a brain. This murder is the most blatant that I have seen/heard of in quite some time. It brings sensations of a world without rules or morals. Peace be us. In Community.

At tomorrows rally we will also taking a stand and cheering on all of those that came forward with their camera phone footage. Without them there would not be a case against this murderer. Folk will also be presenting a list of demands not only for our local and state government but also for us to follow up with. PLease come through. show your support and stand up for justice.

Sorry, I am unable to attend. My thoughts go with you and my prayers are for the victims in this case. We are the victims, when you consider this could have been you or me. A person of color is more likely to end up like this. Had the camera phone not been rolling, the police would most likely spin the story; as they tried to do with Rodney King. They had a story all set to go when it surfaced that a recording was made.
I simply can not get to Oakland, tomorrow. Police officers must have specialized training to help prevent these actions. Police higher-ups must put the word down that unaccecptable unprofessional police behavior is hurting the department. The end result of police work involving a gun, a shooting by the officer, usually ends up in lawsuits, bad publicity and actually hurting the community they are sworn to protect. Not to mention the pain, grief and anger felt by the families and community in general. The police union should come out and scream bloddy murder and we won't take it anymore. They should be the ones instilling proper police work. A 22 year old dead, why because the police officer drew the gun.

About

The Gathering’s Mission

The mission of The Gathering is to build an Intergenerational, movement, rooted in history, cultures and non-violent direct action to heal communities, build collective strength and generate an environment of hope and opportunity.

Civil rights and social justice organizations have come to understand that collective action on a national basis is required to stop child incarceration and challenge the immoral process which perpetuates an unjust justice system. These groups are working under extremely difficult circumstances and many of them with little or no resources. The Gathering is a national movement that creates a coordinated space to 1) fortify relationships between regional groups, 2) support local endeavors and 3) enhance the ongoing organizing of non-violent direct action training. Central to its mission is strengthening our moral environment.
